Old computer parts get their second chance
The Portsmouth, England based artist Julie Alice Chappell turns used and broken computer parts into beautiful insects. Delicate butterflies, dragonflies and even flies and cockroaches emerge under their skilled hands. Julie creates her upcycling creations with a lot of imagination and skill. Each piece is unique and therefore of interest to real connoisseurs and collectors. All of these unusual insects are sold in the artist’s Etsy online shop and are also suitable as unique gifts. Environmentally conscious people as well as computer fans will be able to really appreciate these creatures. You can tell at first glance the uniqueness of the small figures. If you look a little more focused, you can also immediately notice the tiny patterns on the wings and bodies of the insects, which are actually quite authentic. These are mainly parts of the computer’s circuit board that have been colored in soft shades.
For example the beautiful blue butterflies below. They also consist of the circuit board and you can notice it on the “wing veins”. Two blue Swarovsky opal crystals as eyes add the finishing touch and add a touch of luxury. The wingspan is 9.5 cm and comes to your home elegantly packed in a wooden box.

The golden bow ties are just as pretty – real jewels. The artist designed this with delicate, green wings.
You almost look alive, don’t you?
Or would you rather prefer a ladybug?
No matter which piece becomes your favorite, you won’t regret getting yourself one. Take a look at all the great insects and let yourself be carried away into a strange upcycling world. In doing so, the artist would like to make us aware of the harmful consequences of electronic waste for the environment and animals and to motivate us even more as responsible consumers.
