Fresh turmeric root and ginger root
Prepare kukuma juice
Let’s make fresh turmeric juice! This recipe takes around 15-20 minutes and only requires a handful of ingredients.
You can use a powerful blender, juicer, or even a hand blender to make turmeric juice.
Ginger and turmeric make a great combination
Ingredients you need for turmeric juice:
- about 8-9 cm or 75 grams of turmeric root, unpeeled
- 5 cm fresh ginger root or 1 tablespoon ginger powder
- Juice of half a lemon (about 2 tablespoons)
- 1 small orange or 3-4 mandarins / clementines
- 1 1/4 cup of water
- 2 tablespoons honey or other sweetener (optional)
- freshly cracked black pepper (optional)
Turmeric juice offers numerous health benefits
You can peel or not the turmeric and ginger as desired. However, because both turmeric and ginger grow underground, they can have a significant amount of dirt residue on their peel.
If you choose not to peel them, be sure to wash and scrub them thoroughly to remove any dirt and debris.
After you’ve peeled or washed the turmeric and ginger, simply add them to your blender or juicer with the remaining ingredients!

If you are using a juicer: Prepare your ingredients and juice them up. Then stir honey and black pepper into a cup of water and add this to your finished juice.
If you are using a stand mixer: Put all of the ingredients, including honey and black pepper, in the blender and blend into a smooth mixture. Pour through a nut milk bag or fine-grain cheesecloth to strain and separate the firm pulp.
Ginger turmeric shots
Prepare Kukuma shots
The procedure for making turmeric shots is the same as for turmeric juice. The only difference is that the amount of water is reduced and no sweetener is added.
Follow the same steps outlined above to prepare the turmeric and ginger and then process them in your juicer or stand mixer. To make turmeric shots, use 3/4 cup of water instead of 1 1/4 cup of water!
Shots with fresh turmeric root
Put all the ingredients in the blender. You may also be able to double this to get a larger amount. And your turmeric shots are already ready! You can drink them directly like alcohol-containing shots from a shot glass or add them to a smoothie or tea in the morning.

Can you use ground turmeric??
Fresh turmeric isn’t available all over the world, so we tested a version of this recipe that also used turmeric powder. The taste of the juice with fresh turmeric root is of course much more intense, but if you can’t find any fresh turmeric on the market, then you can use ground turmeric. In this case, take 1/4 cup of turmeric powder and 1 tablespoon of ginger powder and let them steep in hot water for 5-10 minutes, then strain to remove the powder.
Turmeric powder as an alternative
Extra tip: Juice or shots made from turmeric powder have a more fluid consistency compared to juice made from fresh turmeric. It’s more like water compared to a fruit juice. You can therefore add a little coconut milk.
Enjoy your freshly made turmeric juice in the morning and start the day with a smile and full of energy!
